The French Paradox —Explained?
A Harvard study indicates that Resveratrol, a molecule found in red wine helps negate the effects of a high fat diet. The molecule seems to mimic (in mice at least) the effect of being on a low calorie diet. Two groups of mice were tested; both were on a high fat/high calorie diet, one group was given Resveratrol supplements.
After 107 weeks, half of the non-Resveratrol receiving group had died, while less then 1/3 of the supplemented had died.
